Ari Marcopoulos moved to New York in December 1980, after spending his first years in Holland, born in Amsterdam in 1957. He moved from there because Holland was to conservative for him. He wanted more, big buildings, American baseball, big swarms of people. In contrast with this, his photographic work is very personal, intimate, and if there's nature in it always looks pretty desert. His subjects come from youth cultures like the snowboard, skateboard and hiphop scenes. The kids from Larry Clark's movie where recruited by Marcopoulos, he followed the Beastie Boys for about six years, he did work for Burton Snowboards and in the mean time published books, videos, zines. You can see his work right now in Foam, a photography museum in Amsterdam and at the same time at the Whitney Biennial in New York.

Alexandra Pace for Milkshake Magazine
I was happily surprised by the work of Alexandra Pace for the new fashion and art zine Milkshake Magazine. The pictures are moody but never depressing and make me want to stroll the city. All night long. I have to admit that not all of the pictures are of the same quality (please people, no more gravity walls), but if this is the standard for the whole magazine, it should be a great first issue. Buy Milkshake Magazine here and see more of Alexandra Pace here.

Copenhagen Fall 2010
Though the big shows in the big fashion capitals New York, Paris, Milan and London are just about to kick off, some less known, more quite ones have allready been at Copenhagen Fashion Week. It started the 10th of February, and officially it continues till tomorrow but the last shows are today. WIth darkness comes moodiness, something you see reflected in lots of Scandinavian design. Here are three designers you might never have heard of -I didn't either-, but who are definitily worth to have a look at. Click their names for more.

Comme des Garçons x Stephen J. Shanabrook
A bit late, but absolutely worth posting. For it's latest shirt campaign Comme des Garçons collaborates with artist Stephen J. Shanabrook. The result, a continuation of his 'Paper Surgery' series, is beautiful yet disturbing. Completely in line with the rest of Stephens work and with Comme des Garçons view on fashion. Personally I think it's one of the stronger campaigns around at the moment, not sole focusing on the fashion, but more on the atmosphere surrounding the label.
